Justice and Human Rights

Exodus Consultancy Series works on Human Rights and Justice in Ethiopia and beyond. We work on designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating human rights projects based on universal human rights standards and approaches as well as localized guides and methodologies.

Previously we have implemented projects aimed at promoting the employment writes of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. We have participated in the National Legal Reform Process embarked by the Ethiopian government in 2019 to incorporate basic human rights norms in different legal regimes that have direct implications on the enjoyment of basic human rights by citizens.

Most importantly experts from our group have participated in the drafting of the Federal Administrative Procedures Proclamation, Proclamation No. 1183 /2020. The Proclamation for the first time introduces the system of Judicial Review in the Ethiopian legal system whereby the decisions and rules of administrative agencies of federal government could be challenged by citizens in a court of law. The Federal Administrative Procedure Proclamation goes a long way in clarifying the normative confusion and placing judicial review of administrative acts on a firm footing. Apart from affording individuals a mechanism of redress for rights violations, it also has created a tremendous opportunity for human rights advocacy in the form of strategic litigations.
